October 9: Death and Dying

October 9: If given the choice, how would you choose to die?

I should have taken away the option to choose peacefully in my sleep at an old age because obviously that’s the easy answer. It’s also what I would absolutely choose if given the choice. However, if that option were off the table then I would choose to die by drowning. Someone once told me that it’s actually quite peaceful once you get over the initial struggle. In the brief period of time between your lungs filling up with water and your brain stopping to function, you actually experience a state of euphoria. Who knows if this is true or not, but it seems like it would be neat to experience. Gee, how morbid is that?

Obviously old age surrounded by loved ones is the way to go. If that can’t be it then anything instant and painless with no warning, like a massive explosion that only takes me out or a sniper shot to the head…

This of course is all based solely on myself and selfishly how I’d want to go. I’m not sure what I would choose for the sake of my family… a long, slow illness is terrible, but so is the shock of losing someone with no warning…

That’s a really good point. If I considered my family’s feelings I might choose something that would allow me to say goodbye first.

this is just slightly morbid….but I don’t really care how I go….as long as it is quick and painless….drowning….no thanks….and fire…most definitely not….decapitated or having a plane land on my car…quick and painless….definitely….

Decapitation or plane landing on car? They might be quick and painless, but can you imagine the fear leading up to that??? Scary!

    Brain aneurysm. Instant and painless.

You do make a good point….

Drowning! No. I object. That is the worst.

Although if it were a choice between fire and water I would definitely choose water.

If old age is off the table, this requires some thinking…

Fire would be the worst. Drowning would admittedly suck, but I couldn’t really think of anything else. Kristin may have had a good idea with brain aneurysm.
