October 10: Fear

October 10: What is your biggest fear?

Without a doubt, my biggest fear is flying. I have flown twice in my life, once to Georgia and once to Colorado. However, both of those flights were almost 10 years ago and I haven’t been on an airplane since. I am extremely claustrophobic and the idea of being “stuck” in a confined space with so many other people scares the crap out of me. I also have this really bad habit (some may call it a character flaw) in which I want what I want when I want it. It terrifies me to think that I can’t just get off the plane if I want to. I’m not afraid of crashing and dying, I’m afraid of having a panic attack or changing my mind about being on that flight. It really all comes down to control for me. If I were flying the plane myself or it was my own private plane then I think I would be just fine. But it seems as if both of those things are about as likely to happen as my getting struck by lightning.

I know I just need to do it. Armed with a xanax and glass of wine, I’m sure I would be just fine. And I probably would have done it by now if damn fertility treatments didn’t suck my savings account dry. I’ll get around to it one day….

Hubby is also afraid of flying. His first flight was to visit me when I was studying abroad–a direct flight from Atlanta to Frankfurt, about 11 hours. He said he did not move from his chair the whole time. Bless his heart.

That would (and will!) be me!

Kitt always laughs at me as I tense up and get all panicky on take-off and landing.

I feel ya…like times 10!! If I haven’t already told you, I actually used to be a flight attendant…go figure!! I’m not worried about the plane crashing at all…if that happens, well crap then it happens! It’s the fact that I can’t get up and out at my leisure! Anything where I can’t do what I want when I want is anxiety inducing! And do NOT put me in a window seat or the back of the plane…no ma’am!

Yes! That’s totally it! Glad I’m not the only one πŸ™‚ I had no idea you used to be a flight attendant. Too funny!
